Individualized_ProgramsMany individuals who have experienced an acquired brain injury, neurological impairment, or developmental disability encounter a wide range of behavioral/emotional difficulties. A person may have difficulty following instructions, demonstrating appropriate social skills, or self managing difficult situations. As a result, these individuals may engage in numerous inappropriate behaviors which impact their ability to be more independent, get along with family members, maintain a job, or relationships. Communicare realizes that individuals need help in improving his/her own behavior. The ultimate goal is to learn skills that foster independence and autonomy. By learning more appropriate behaviors, individuals will ultimately improve their quality of life and become more independent.

The team of behavior analysts work in partnership with residents, families, and staff to ensure that comprehensive and practical programs are developed teaching replacement behaviors while reducing inappropriate ones. Through consistent teaching, encouragement, and reinforcement, residents become successful in managing their own behaviors and ultimately their own lives.

Behavioral services may or may not include the following:

  • Functional Assessment/analysis
  • Individualized behavioral protocols/plans, monitoring of behavioral data/progress
  • Individualized graphical display of progress
  • Coordination with Medical Director regarding medication needs/reduction of pharmacological intervention
  • Treatment team meetings to discuss progress
  • 1:1/group therapy sessions
  • Family training
